Equipment Failure Procedure
DK-48 Emergency Cooling System 10/22/62
A. Failure Of The Emergency Cooling System Or Its Related Equipment
NOTE: The emergency cooling system is to be operated weekly to ensure that all DK equipment
is satisfactory. Should any portion of the emergency cooling not operate satisfactorily,
the reactor is to be shutdown and repairs made to the faulty equipment. The primary system
requires cooling and depressurizing only for repairs on certain pieces of equipment.
- 1. Operate both ADG's to provide backup electrical power for the normal means used to
remove decay heat form the reactor.
- 2. Tag the Emergency Cooling System START pushbutton on the main console and the failed
equipments control on the emergency panel. Open and tag controller disconnect switches.
- 3. While the equipment is being repaired circulate primary water through the core with
two primary pumps on half speed and remove heat through the secondary system or remove
heat with the letdown coolers.
- 4. Perform necessary repairs on the failed equipment.
