Equipment Failure Procedure
CW-47 Intermediate Cooling Water System 10/22/62
A. One Intermediate Cooler Or Its Related Equipment Becomes Inoperable
1. Switch to other cooler by opening manual valves.
2. Close all sea water and fresh water isolation valves around cooler and tag and lock or wire valves closed.
NOTE: Close hot water valves first.
3. Repair inoperable cooler.
4. Should operable cooler fail, before inoperable cooler is put back into service, shutdown reactor and start emergency cooling system.
B. One Intermediate Fresh Water Pump Or Its Related Equipment Becomes Inoperable
1. Switch to other pump from main console.
2. Stop inoperable pump and tag pushbutton on main console.
3. Repair inoperable pump.
4. Should operable pump fail before inoperable pump cam be placed into operation, shut down reactor and start emergency cooling system.
C. One Intermediate Sea Water Pump Or Its Related Equipment Becomes Inoperable
1. Switch to the other pump from the main console.
2. Stop inoperable pump and tag pushbuttons on main console.
3. Repair inoperable pump.
4. Should operable pump fail before inoperable pump is put into service, shut down reactor and start emergency cooling system.
D. Pressure Control Valve CW-29V Or Its Related Equipment Becomes Inoperable
1. Use valve CW-31V to control pressure of intermediate water.
2. Tag valve CW-29V at main console.
3. Repair valve CW-29V.
4. Should valve CW-31V fail to function properly before valve CW-29V is put back into service, shut down reactor and start emergency cooling system.
E. Intermediate Cooling System Surge Tank Water Level Drops Below Low Level Alarm
1. Open all sources of makeup to tank (valves CW-159V, CW-87V, and CW-157V).
2. If level does not rise in a reasonable period of time, shut down reactor and start emergency cooling system.
3. Stop intermediate fresh water and sea water pumps.
4. Investigate and correct cause of low water level.
